TMS worked with Loughborough University on the EC funded RISER project. This project analysed single vehicle off-road collisions throughout Europe, and addressed scientific and practical issues involved in analysing the safety performance of roadside elements. The project developed guidelines for their optimal design and maintenance.

TMS has also worked with Birmingham University on the EC funded TRACE project. The objective of TRACE was to provide a global overview of collision causation issues in Europe in order to answer the following questions:
When, where, how, why and to whom do accidents happen, and when, where, how, why and to whom do injuries occur?
