TMS has become the first UK training provider to offer an official Highways Agency Approved Certificate of Competency in Road Safety Audit, when their Keeping up to Date two day course was approved by the HA in February 2012.
The first course ran on 8-9 February 2012 in Coventry when 16 experienced Safety Auditors from around the UK spent two days "Keeping up to Date" with Road Safety Audit. In doing so they all achieved the 2 days CPD required for Safety Auditors on UK trunk road and motorway schemes, as set out in HD 19/03 and IAN 152/11.
Twelve of those attending will endeavour to achieve the HA Approved Certificate of Competency option that goes with this course. They will undertake a knowledge test, and then submit evidence of their skills, training and experience to TMS for verification. They will also submit two recent Road Safety Audits for assessment. Successful candidates will be awarded a Highways Agency Approved Certificate of Competency.
From December 2013, ALL Safety Audits undertaken on motorway or trunk road schemes throughout the UK will require at least one member of the audit team to hold an HA Approved Certificate of Competency. The HA Approval process obtained by TMS will be valid throughout England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Phil Cook, TMS Director, who ran the first UK Certificate of Competency course said: "We feel honoured to be able to offer the first Highways Agency Approved Certificates of Competency in Road Safety Audit in the UK. We look forward to working with the Highways Agency to continue to apply the highest professional standards in Safety Auditing as we award these Certificates over coming months."
