TMS were approached recently to develop a new training course for a large Health Sector client aimed at enabling key staff to undertake Workplace Transport Safety Assessments.
The two-day course, which includes an assessed operational site visit and report was succesfully piloted last week. The training draws on our extensive experience in undertaking Road Safety Audits on public roads as well as the many operational safety audits carried out at which looked at transport safety arrangements at industrial, commercial and public sector establishment.
Senior Consultant Pete Smith said " In addition to providing staff training we also assist with the development of policies and procedures to help organisations with their Health and Safety obligations, particularly where it relates to the safety of the public who may be using their site roads and pedestrian routes."
The course includes elements of accident causation, the site inspection and road safety audit procedures, road safety risk assesement and report writing. It closely follows the principles set out in Health and Safety Executive Guidance HSG 136. It is suitable for staff at all workplace transport situations but particularly relevant to sites that provide public access such as hospitals, universities and public transport hubs.
