TMS were recently commissioned to undertake a series of detailed design stage Road Safety Audits in the Republic of Ireland.
Despite the financial struggles in Ireland some schemes are still receiving the go ahead, with TMS subsequently being asked to carry out Road Safety Audits. The series of carriageway realignment schemes taking place at accident cluster sites on the National road network are aimed at providing safer high speed roads in rural locations. The designs primarily consist of removing severe bends where there is a history of loss of control collisions, while simultaneously smoothing out undulations in vertical alignment to improve forward visibility and visibility from the side roads.
Rob Cyples, Audit Team Leader, stated "It's great to see funding is still being made available to improve Ireland's road network and reduce casualties at the most dangerous sections".
The National road realignment schemes are not on the scale of the major Motorway schemes of past years, but they do highlight the significant relationships TMS have built up in the Republic of Ireland with various Design organisations and Contractors.
