Final Road Safety Audits on Motorway upgrade in Scotland

For a number of years, TMS has been involved in an ambitious project to upgrade the core of Scotland’s motorway network, designed to boost Scotland’s economy by improving connections between the commercial centres of Glasgow and Edinburgh, and beyond. The final post construction road safety audits have now been completed on the project, which involved the following elements:

  • new motorway between Baillieston and Newhouse, completing the M8 motorway
  • improvements to Raith Interchange on the M74
  • new, all-purpose A8 between Baillieston and Eurocentral
  • upgrading the existing M8 between Easterhouse and Baillieston
  • upgrading the M73 between Baillieston and Maryville that links the M8 and M74
  • upgrade of the M74 between Daldowie and Hamilton

The project was challenging as the road safety audits were staged as the construction progressed, which required the TMS auditors to make numerous trips to the site, often at short notice. Despite the short deadlines, TMS handled the pressure to complete the road safety audits in a timely manner, which was hugely appreciated by the contractor.
