TMS has been commissioned by RSGB to develop a course to teach transport and education authority staff the procedures for assessing Walked Routes to School (WRTS) and School Crossing Patrols (SCP).
The guidelines for each of these issues have been produced by RSGB and are seen as national best practice.
TMS Director Steve Proctor delivered a pilot course for 15 staff from the Education Authority in Northern Ireland between 26th - 29th October. The course includes sessions on how collisions happen, road safety risk assessment procedures and the WRTS and SCP guidelines.
Delegates undertake a series of workshops and a site visit of a WRTS. An assignment is set at the end of the course. It is anticipated that RSGB/TMS will look to achieve City and Guilds Accreditation for the course, prior to rolling it out as a national training opportunity.
