TMS assess cycle safety for The Home Office

TMS has an extensive client base, ranging from single person consultancy firms through to multinational companies and large government departments.

This time TMS carried out a safety assessment for a well known client; The Home Office in London.  The Home Office representatives approached TMS after numerous cyclists were injured following accidents in the Department's underground car-park. It was recently resurfaced and it was thought that this could have contributed to cyclists slipping and losing control whilst entering and exiting the secure car-park.

TMS Engineers Harminder Aulak and Andy Paul assessed the site during a typical weekday. Harminder assessed the site from a cyclist's point of view (having brought his cycle to the site) and Andy provided his considerable materials and civil engineering knowledge.

Recommendations were made regarding improvements to the surfacing material and extending treatable areas within the car-park. It is considered that these measures should help to improve safety for cyclists using the car-park, especially as cycling is now a popular commuting mode in London.
