TMS have very active members of staff, Hammy is a keen cyclist and Darren has previously run the London Marathon, now it’s Richards’ turn to run a marathon. Having started running a couple of years ago in a bid to get fit Richard has run 4 half marathons, including the Great North Run, and is now training for the London Marathon.
He is raising money for the charity Livability who tackle social isolation and the barriers that can cause this in the lives of disabled and vulnerable people.
Richard had this to say about his marathon journey:
“After starting to run doing the couch to 5k programme I then completed a number of 10k’s and moved upto half marathons. It seemed the right time to run the London Marathon, I have watched it every year on TV and am always in awe of the people who complete it and raise such a great amount for charity.
I am fundraising for the charity Livability, my girlfriend works in a SEN school with children and young adults who have complex disabilities. I spent a day within the school last year and it made me realise how lucky I am, I take the simple task of going to the shops, pub, gym, cafe etc fore-granted. Those with complex disabilities are so often isolated from their local communities and are unable to socialise in ways we are all able to do. When I got a chance to run for Livability I knew I'd be raising money for such a great cause.
I also have a signed Manchester United Football which I am holding a silent auction for, if you would like to place a bid or would like more information please email me by Friday 1st February on email@example.com.
If you would like to sponsor me or find out more about the charity then you can find more information here.”
