N25 Improvements nearing completion in Cork, Ireland

TMS has recently completed the pre-opening Stage 3 road safety audit of the mainline improvements of the N25 South Ring Road Improvements in Cork. The main aim of the scheme was to provide grade separation of two junctions along the route (Sarsfield Road and Bandon Road roundabouts) which currently suffer from long delays at peak times. The scheme also involves the construction of Parallel Link Roads alongside the mainline, which shall cater for local traffic as well as pedestrians and cyclists.

Audit Team Leader, Harminder Aulak, said:

"It is always interesting to follow a scheme from premlinary design through to construction. The first Stage 1 audit was carried out in October 2010 before even a digger arrived on site. The recent Stage 3 audit was carried out in July 2013, with the flyovers due to be opened to traffic at the end of the month. It was a difficult scheme for the contractor to construct as it is an on-line improvement, but the finished result is impressive."
