The new 22km M18 motorway, with a total scheme budget of €207 million, opened on Friday 12th November 2010, nine months ahead of schedule. The scheme represents the completion of another section of the Atlantic Corridor, and links in with the N18 Ennis Bypass Motorway, which opened in January 2007.
TMS have been the safety auditors for the project and have been involved with the scheme for many years, seeing the progression from early land clearance to the completion of the fully functioning motorway. This started with the preliminary design in April 2008, the detailed design in December 2009 and finishing with the opening in November 2010. The relatively short timescale for the whole project required close cooperation between all parties involved and good working relationships were established between TMS, the Designer (RPS Consulting) and the Contractor (SIAC Wills Bros).
TMS have been the safety auditors for many of Ireland's new motorways and dual carriageways over the last 12 years, including the M18 Ennis Bypass motorway, which also forms part of the Atlantic corridor. They have seen the country's infrastructure vastly improve from single carriageway national roads to the construction of motorways linking the major towns and cities.
TMS has vast experience of major road schemes, and have carried out similar projects in the Middle East, Central Asia and other European Countries.
