TMS were recently asked to carry out the Stage 2 Road Safety Audit of the A8 improvement between Belfast and Larne in Northern Ireland, the last remaining section of single carriageway road along the A8.
The scheme consisted of upgrading a 14km section of existing single carriageway with both on-line and off-line improvements, including a bypass around the town of Ballynure. There will be five grade separated junctions along the route and numerous at-grade left in/left out junctions and private accesses. The scheme ties into an existing roundabout at Coleman's Corner (southern end of scheme) and finishes with a new at-grade roundabout at the northern tie-in.
The project will result in the A8 being completely dualled between Belfast and Larne, significantly reducing the risk of overtaking related collisions. The experience of TMS to audit major projects, as well as the flexibility to complete the audit to strategic deadlines, were key reasons why TMS were awarded the contract.
