When carrying out site visits, the same accessibility issues can be identified by the auditors with monotonous regularity. Narrow footways is a typical scenario that can be encountered.
Narrow footways can be a problem to mobility and sight impaired pedestrians. This situation can be made worse by the presence of additional obstructions, such as lighting columns, litter bins and other street furniture.
Auditors should recommend, wherever possible, to remove unnecessary obstructions from the pedestrian route or, at least, guarded or conspicuously marked.
