This is a TWO week residential course comprising a wide range of lectures and workshops in the first week and practical work in the second week. The all-inclusive price includes course fees, a copy of the Road Safety Engineering Manual and 8 night's accommodation (over the two weeks), including breakfast, lunch and dinner.
This course is suitable for those who require a solid, comprehensive understanding of the theory and practice of road collison/accident investigation and prevention. This course is designed for Engineers and Technicians working in local authorities, consultancies, the Department of Transport and Executive Agencies. It is also suitable for Road Safety Officers, Police and Armed Forces Officers and other professionals concerned with road safety.
Completion of the two-week course provides the core training requirement for the Highways Agency for Road Safety Auditors. Safety Audits can only be undertaken on trunk roads and motorways by suitably trained and experienced staff.
Delegates will work in teams during the second week to investigate and analyse a real-life case study and design an appropriate remedial programme. Each team produces a written report and a presentation on the final day of the course.
All Delegates completing this course will receive a CPD certificate of attendance, recognised by both the IHE and CIHT. This certificate will comply with exisiting Highways Agency training requirements for Road Safety Audit as recommended in HD19/03.
The European Directive on Road Infrastructure Management requires that by 2013 road safety auditors working on the trans European Road Network (TERN) will need to undergo road safety engineering training resulting in the award of a "certificate of competence".
Since June 2010 RoSPA/ TMS has offered delegates attending the 10 day RSE (AIP) course the option of obtaining such a certificate.
Those wishing to take up this option will attend week 1 of the course with the other delegates. On the final afternoon they will sit a multiple choice knowledge test, based on subjects covered in week 1.
Those taking the certificate will then attend the first two days of week 2 with the other delegates, during which time they will analyse collision data and visit the collision location. They will then leave the course and write up the study report as individuals. They will subsequently submit this report, along with a completed Safety Audit report, to the course tutors for assessment.
In addition to a certificate of attendance, successful candidates will be awarded a Certificate of Competence by RoSPA.
