TMS offers an extensive range of training courses in the field of Road Safety and Traffic Management.  All courses offer a 'hands on' approach to training and are recognised for CPD by the IHE and CIHT

In-house Training

TMS are well known as training providers in the transportation sector. Did you know that we also offer a range courses at your offices or at a venue of your choice? This can often work out cheaper and will allow you to train your staff together to the same high standard. Training your staff in-house can also offer considerable savings in travel time and expenses.

It also offers the advantage of having all of your team there to review policy, procedure and consistency issues with an experienced TMS practitioner / trainer.

We are able to offer our standard open courses, or we can tailor the course material to suit your needs.

Examples of our tailor made in-house courses are:

Risk Assessment for Bikeability

This two day course is designed for Bikeability Instructors, Travel Co-ordinators, and Road Safety Practitioners who have been tasked with undertaking risk assessments associated with levels 1 & 2 Bikeability training.

The course explains how to undertake risk assessments, and then, through a series of practical on site and classroom workshops, helps staff to develop a comprehensive "method statement" for undertaking this work.

At the end of the course staff should have the confidence to undertake these risk assessments in a consistent, repeatable and efficient manner.

Working on the Highway?

This course has been tailored for staff whose work involves them working on or near roads/footways but who are not actually carrying out streetworks or highway works, these include litter picking operators, CCTV installation contractors, and traffic survey contractors. Topics covered on the course included understanding the safety problem, the types of incidents that can occur, risk assessment and method statements, temporary traffic management, and legal issues.

Event Management

This course was tailored for Devon County Council Road Safety Officers, Fire and Rescue Management, and Police Road Safety Officers to help them plan and deliver road safety events and to gain an understanding of the duties and responsibilities in respect of those events. Topics covered on the course included risk management, public liability, personal, corporate responsibility, current guidance and best practice for event planning.

Highway Design

This course was tailored for Lincolnshire County Council to provide an understanding of the principles and practice of the geometric design of highways. Topics covered on the course included Design Standards, Design Speed, Sight Distance, Horizontal Alignment and Vertical Alignment.

Safety Audit Awareness

This course has been tailored for staff that are not actively involved in Road Safety Auditing but are required to understand the Road Safety Audit process. Topics covered on the course included the road safety audit process, what auditors are looking for, and legal implications.

Statistics in Road Safety

This course was tailored for Essex County Council to provide an understanding of statistically testing techniques used in road safety engineering work. Topics covered on the course included collision rates, comparable testing and before/after testing.

Traffic Regulation Orders

This course was tailored for Cornwall Council to explain the legal basis and procedures for making Traffic Regulation Orders and to discuss common issues that might give rise to challenges to Traffic Regulation Orders. Topics covered on the course included Highway Law, background to Traffic Regulation Orders, Permanent Traffic Regulation Orders, Experimental Traffic Regulation Orders, Parking Places, Speed Limits and Miscellaneous Orders
