Introduction to Traffic Calming


Overview:

This course examines in detail the rules and good practice guidance covering traffic calming schemes in residential areas, towns and villages. It gives examples of both good and bad scheme features.

 

Aims and Objectives:

  • To examine the rules of traffic calming and outline good practice in this area
  • To discuss the implications of these in planning, design and scheme delivery


Topics Covered:

  • The need for traffic calming
  • The history and development of traffic calming
  • Legislation and guidelines
  • Designing ramps, speed cushions and speed tables
  • Designing chicanes, build-outs and road narrowings
  • Traffic calming in villages
  • Traffic calming in new residential areas
  • Other speed management measures including cameras and vehicle activated signs


Certification:

Delegates completing this course will receive a CPD certificate of attendance, recognised by both the IHE and CIHT.
