Introduction to Signal Junctions


Overview:

A course providing delegates with an introduction to the issues involved in the design and implementation of  signal junctions. This module is aimed at road safety, traffic management and development control professionals seeking to learn or improve their skills in the design of traffic signals. The course consists of informal short lectures, practical workshops and discussion sessions, case studies and examples.

 

Aims and Objectives:

  • To examine a range of issues in the design of signal junctions
  • To examine the issues relating to safety, operation and capacity
  • To examine the implications of these in planning and scheme design and performance

  • General principles of design
  • Visibility
  • Geometric design including lane width, turning radii etc.
  • Detection systems
  • Phases, stages and clearance periods
  • Typical layouts and design features
  • Capacity issues
  • Safety Issues


Certification:

Delegates completing this course will receive a CPD certificate of attendance, recognised by both the IHE and CIHT.
