Introduction to Priority Junctions


Overview:

A course designed to provide an understanding of the principles and practice of designing priority junctions.  This module is aimed at a broad range of professionals who are involved in designing or assessing the adequacy of junctions. The course consists of informal short lectures, practical workshops and discussion sessions, case studies and examples.


Aims and Objectives:

  • To examine a range of issues in the design of priority junctions
  • To examine the issues relating to safety, operation and capacity
  • To examine the implications of these in planning and scheme design and performance


Topics Covered:

  • General principles of design
  • Design speed
  • Visibility (MfS and DMRB)
  • Geometric design including lane width, turning radii etc.
  • Typical layouts and design features
  • Capacity issues including PICADY
  • Safety Issues


Certification:

Delegates completing this course will receive a CPD certificate of attendance, recognised by both the IHE and CIHT.
