Transport Assessments


Overview:

This a 2-day course designed to give an introducion to the topic of Transport Assessments
(TAs). The course will help those preparing Transport Assessment reports and those
who check the reports.  There is particular emphasis on providing for non-car users.

 

Aims and Objectives:

  • to give delegates a sound background to Transport Assessments
  • to give delegates advice on preparing and checking Transport Assessments
  • to encourage delegates to share their experiences of Transport Assessments


Topics Covered:

  • The Planning Process
    Delegates will learn about the planning processes in the UK and will appreciate how Transport Assessments fit into these processes.
  • What is a Transport Assessment?
    Delegates will understand what is covered in a Transport Assessment. It will also
    cover the topics of Transport Statements and Scoping Studies.
  • Traffic and other information
    Delegates will understand how information is gathered to enable Transport
    Assessments to be prepared. This will include traffic generation and distribution.
  • Encouraging non-car use
    Delegates will examine ways in which non-car travel can be encouraged.
  • General principles of junction design
    Delegates will understand the basic principles of junction design including terms
    such as RFC and reserve capacity.
  • Principles of priority junction design and use of PICADY
    Delegates will learn the basics of priority junction design and what to look for when
    they are checking proposed schemes. Following a workshop there will be a
    demonstration of the program PICADY including data input and an examination of a
    sample output.
  • Principles of roundabout design and use of ARCADY
    Delegates will learn the basics of roundabout design and what to look for when they are checking proposed schemes. Following a workshop there will be a
    demonstration of the program ARCADY including data input and an examination of a
    sample output.
  • Principles of traffic signal design
    Delegates will understand the basics of traffic signal design

Certification:

Delegates completing this course will receive a CPD certificate of attendance, recognised by both the IHE and CIHT.
