Streetscape - Road Safety & Traffic Management

Overview:

This is a one day course looking at the interaction between streetscape policy and practice and road safety issues.

Many schemes have both streetscape and road safety implications and it is important to be able to identify any potential conflicts and to be able to balance these in making design decisions.

Aims and Objectives:

The course will examine the principles of both streetscape and road safety. It will highlight areas of potential conflict together with areas of common benefit.

It will look at principles and practice in some case studies and some provide examples of streetscape policies. Training will be provided by a mixture of short lectures, case studies and workshops. Delegates will participate in group workshops giving them a hands on approach to the subject and the confidence to put into practice what they have learnt during the course.

Decluttering workshop
What does the guidance say - an examination of some key documents:
MfS, DMRB, TSRGD, TSM, LTN1/08 Traffic Management and Streetscape, Guidance on the use of tactile paving surfaces, a selection of London Borough and TfL streetscape guidance publications
Some specific issues - removing guard rail, removing signs, removing lines, shared spaces and shared surfaces, road safety audit
