Road User Behaviour Seminar

Overview:

This seminar brings together leading academics and practitioners in the field of road safety, providing delegates with an opportunity to hear about cutting edge research in road user behaviour, followed by participation in group workshops dealing with issues for high risk casualty groups.

Aims and Objectives:

The aim of this one day seminar/workshop is firstly to provide a conference style session with input from leading academics in the field of road safety, so that delegates can become aware of new ideas and research. The second aim is to encourage delegates to share their own ideas and experiences through two workshops during the afternoon session, tutored by leading road safety practitioners. Each delegate will be able to take part in two workshops, made from a choice of four overall.

Topics covered:

• Cyclists - 2010 casualty figures show cycle injury numbers may be increasing. We look at how drivers and cyclists interact, and how cyclists perceive risk - this session will be delivered by Ian Walker - University of Bath
• Children - the debate on how far we should go in protecting children from harm continues to be topical - we look at the real road safety risks to children and what strategies might be effective in the future  - this session will be delivered by George Dunbar - University of Warwick
• Drivers - recent European case law suggests we may need to re-assess insurance premiums for both young male and female drivers. We explore the risk issues for both male and female younger drivers - this session will be delivered by Poppy Husband - Devon County Council
• Motorcyclists - after several stubborn years motorcycle casualty numbers appear to be reducing. We look at what still hurts motorcyclists and ideas for reducing the problem further - this session will be delivered by Paul Hewson - Plymouth University

Certification:

Delegates completing this course will receive a CPD certificate of attendance, recognised by both the IHE and CIHT.
