Safer Routes to School

Including School Travel Plans and Risk Assessments of Walking Routes to School

Every school is now encouraged to produce a School Travel Plan. The plan describes how pupils and staff travel to and from school and sets targets to reduce the number of trips to school by car.

Pupils, parents and staff work together to produce strategies which encourage safer journeys by foot and by bicycle.

School Travel Plans are often linked to highway engineering measures through Safer Routes to School projects.

Our experience

Over the years, TMS has worked with numerous Local Authorities and Schools throughout the UK and the Republic of Ireland to carry out School Travel Plans, Safer Routes to School projects and Risk Assessments of Walking Routes.
