Traffic management on any site open to the public gives rise to a particular set of risks involving the often conflicting movements of people and vehicles.   

The characteristics and functions of different types of traffic using the site has to be taken into account, and often a balance must be struck between the efficient operation of an organisation and the safety of the people affected by the activities on the site.

Risks facing Hospitals

On a hospital site in particular, there are risks involved with the movements around the site of elderly or infirm pedestrians and those patients and visitors arriving by private or public transport, who may not be familiar with the layout and hazards associated with the site.
