In August 2011, TMS carried out a Stage 1 Road Safety Audit of the concept design for surrounding roads for the New Qatar National Museum, in Doha, on behalf of Parsons International Ltd. The new museum promises to be another iconic architectural masterpiece in the State of Qatar, and the building itself will be set in an area of landscaping park.
New roads surrounding the museum are generally on the line of existing roads, with one new link road connecting through to the existing Al Corniche Street and the harbour area.
The scope of the Safety Audit covered all peripheral roads around the museum including existing road widening and realignments, two new four-arm roundabouts, the new link road, and the museum internal road layout.
The State of Qatar Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning (MMUP) requires all new road construction projects to be safety audited in line with internationally recognised Road Safety Audit procedures and, accordingly, the audit was carried out fully in accordance with the principles and practices contained in the UK Safety Audit Standard HD19/03.
An impression of the existing roads around the museum site can be seen from these photographs taken during the site visit.
