Dublin City Centre - accessibility issues

Dublin City Council

Accessibility Audit of City Centre Area 1

TMS was commissioned by Dublin City Council to carry out a pilot Accessibility Audit of all roads, streets and footpaths in a trial area of Dublin City Centre.  This was referred to as City Centre Area 1, and was treated as an advanced trial for the work required throughout the City.  This was the company's first major project of this type.

TMS carried out a detailed audit of the main shopping area in and around Grafton Street, Clarendon Street, William Street South and Drury Street in the City Centre.

Two experienced auditors completed the site visit, referring to current Irish and UK guidelines. Over 100 separate safety and accessibility issues were identified and a report was subsequently submitted to Dublin City Council listing each separate issue, together with an appropriate recommendation for remedial treatment, the estimated cost, and a relative priority classification, based on risk assessment principles.

The final report is now used as the model for the completion of Accessibility Audits throughout the City.
