Northern Ireland DBFO2 Package nearing completion

Work is coming to a close on a £250 million pound package of work to upgrade transport links in Northern Ireland.

As part of Northern Ireland Roads Service Strategic Network Transport Plan, Package 2 of a Design, Build, Finance and Operate contract was identified to upgrade strategic roads in the province. This package involved highway improvements including:

  • 4 new grade separated junctions along the A1 between Lisburn and Newry, including the closure of dual carriageway gaps and upgrading central reserve safety barrier
  • A new dual carriageway bypass of the A1 around Newry, between Beechill and Cloghogue
  • New dual carriageway construction of the A4 between Dungannon and Ballygawley and single carriageway improvements of the A4 Annaghilla Road and the A5 Tullyvar Road

TMS have been the Road Safety Auditors on this project and have completed over 150 audits on the three schemes over the past four years; following the scheme from initial design to construction completion.

The audit work has involved liaison with the DBFO construction consortium of Lagan Ferrovial, Roads Service and a number of Consultants, representing the consortium company (ARUP and RPS) and Roads Service (Aecom, Scott Wilson - now URS and Mouchel).

TMS has extensive road safety audit experience working on major highway schemes throughout the UK and Ireland.  If you would like more information on our road safety audit experience in the UK and Ireland, please click on these links.
